The Madison Historical Society library and archive collection contains a wide variety of materials. Of particular interest are: a collection of personal papers, ledgers, journals and original early deeds, original early Madison Schools and government records, early atlases, the Madison photograph collection, the Madison Press newspaper, vintage books, genealogy files, extensive clipping files by subject, and general history reference books.

An 1846 edition of “The Narratives of the Sufferings of Lewis and Milton Clarke” is part of our vintage book collection. The narrative includes the first-hand account of Milton Clarke’s trial and escape from a Kentucky slave bounty hunter while passing through Madison.
